Step by Step guide for how to convert a KVCD to an AVI File and burn to DVD

If you have a KVCD disk and wish to turn it back into a AVI format for burn to DVD disk, this guide will show you step by step how to do it. It may seem complex but it really is simple.

Step1:
Insert your KVCD Disk or mount you BIN/ISO file in Daemon Tools - See here how to do this!

Step2:
Click My Computer and EXPLORE your drive containing the KVCD Disk/Image. It should look, like this

Step3:
Open the MPEGAV folder, this contains the 'raw' KVCD image (MPEG1 File)

Step4:
It should always be named AVSEQ01.DAT. A .DAT file is an image of a MPEG file, so don't worry!

Step5:
Open VCD Gear and it should look like this:

Ensure the settings are as above MPEG-->MPEG and click the LOAD button and locate the AVSEQ01 file I just showed you on your Disk Drive. (Now you know where to look!)

Step7:
Click OPEN and VCDGEAR will ask you to named the Saved Output file it is about to create.
WARNING: As default it chooses the same location, so you need to save to My Documents!

Step8:
VCDGear should now look like below, so click START button to proceed.

Step9:
It will now convert to a 'Pure' MPEG File, you must use VCDGear to rip the MPEG (AVSEQ01 File) from the Disk Drive as opposed to just Copying it to your Hard Drive in its 'Raw' form.

Step10:
Now its time to turn the MPEG file into a AVI file.

Step11:
Open VirtualDubMOD

Step12:
Click File and select SAVE AS... and ensure you un-tick the 'Don't run this job now' box.

Step13:
Click SAVE and sit back and wait:

Step14:
The output file will be a nice bug free AVI file uncompressed.

Step15:
Open Xilisoft DVD Creator click "File" to add your AVI file, With the DVD burner, you can convert AVI to DVD just one click.

What is a KVCD?
KVCD (K Video Compression Dynamics) is a modification to the standard MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 GOP structure and Quantization Matrix.
It enables you to create over 120 minutes of near dvd quality video, depending on your material, on a single 80 minute CD-R/CD-RW. We have published these specifications as KVCDx3, our official resolution, which produce 528x480 (NTSC) and 528x576 (PAL) MPEG-1 variable bit rate video, from 64Kbps to 3,000Kbps.
Using a resolution of 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL), it's possible to encode video up to ~360 minutes of near VCD quality on a single 80 minute CD-R.
The mpeg files created will play back in most modern standalone dvd players. You must burn the KVCD MPEG files as non-standard VCD or non-standard SVCD (depends on your player) with Nero or VCDEasy.

What is a KVCD used for?
Using KVCD parameters to create dvd's (Kdvd), will enable you to create 100% dvd compliant MPEG-2 streams , capable of playing on any standard dvd player.
This will allow you to put up to about 6 hours Full D-1 720x480 on one dvd, or about 10 hours at Half D-1 352x480.
